Rachel Oliver is Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge. Her research focusses on engineering the small-scale structure of semiconductor materials to create new and improved devices. In 2018, she co-founded Poro Technologies Ltd, a spinout company which is exploiting materials fabrication processes invented in her research group in the development of microdisplays. In recent years she has acted as an advocate for increased diversity in engineering and the physical sciences, including addressing parliamentary committees on this issue. Her involvement in policy-making also encompasses advising on the development of the UK government’s semiconductor strategy.
