The 1st of July saw the Alan Turing building at the University of Manchester play host to the inaugural Materials 4.0 Summer Conference. The event involved an exciting half-day bringing together our first cohort of PGRs students, their supervisors, CDT co-investigators, industrial sponsors and invited speakers.
The conference kicked off with fascinating talks from guest speakers. A massive thank you to Jacqui Cole from the University of Cambridge, Giuliana Giunta from BASF, and Lloyd Fletcher from UKAEA for delivering such engaging and thought-provoking talks that highlighted the importance place of computational techniques in all areas of materials science.
Following a break for tea and cakes, it was then the PGRs turn to present, each giving a short talk introducing their PhD project. This then led to a poster session where guests got a chance to chat to our PGRs about their research.
Thank you to everyone who attended, well done to our students on delivering a series of excellent presentations that updated everyone on their work to date.
“It was energising hearing about the latest materials discovery research happening in the UK and exciting to see doctoral researchers harnessing new digital technologies to accelerate the innovation in advanced materials for a wide range of applications.” – Francesca MacLennan, Director of Science and Education at The Oxford Trust, and Chair of the Materials 4.0 External Advisory Board.
