Cohort 2 Post Graduate Researchers (PGRs) took part in their first residential training week in Manchester (20-24 October). The PGRs enjoyed a week of thought-provoking training led by Centre staff, academics, and industry collaborators.
PGRs had the opportunity to learn about a wide range of subjects to develop a foundation in Materials 4.0, including:
- an introduction to materials science with Dr Lewis Owen (University of Sheffield)
- open and reproducible research with Prof Chris Race (University of Sheffield)
- software carpentry with Dr Sarah Jaffa (University of Manchester)
- high-throughput experimentation with Prof Nick Warren (University of Sheffield) and Brian Taylor (Astra Zeneca)
- modelling and simulation with Prof Chris Race (University of Sheffield)
The Cohort 2 PGRs were also able to discuss their PhD project plans and gain valuable feedback from one another, as well as from Cohort 1. They also took part in a team building exercise – abseiling and caving in the peak district.
This first residential training week forms part of our structured training pathway taking our PGRs from learners to leaders throughout the course of their four year digital materials PhDs.
